Abstract

The article updates a balance on the anthropology career of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Ecuador, carried out in 2012. The objective was to go through the 50 years of life of the discipline highlighting its achievements and failures in contexts of the political effervescence of indigenous movements, the contributions of critical theory, and the implementation of a new education model. These events required the social sciences to reflect on new issues, apply renewed methodologies and rethink social reality with local categories and paradigms. Education policies, serving their own interests, also participated in the academic reform with the consent of some careers and the disapproval of others. The purpose of the balance is to become aware of what has already been done to channel the next steps with the same undisciplined spirit of anthropology.
