UNA MIRADA A LA INSTITUCIONALIZACIÁ“N DE LA ANTROPOLOGÁA SOCIOCULTURAL (1940 A 1960)

The history of Ecuadorian anthropology has been little explored, although there are certain relevant works that have managed to give a general overview of the development of the discipline in Ecuador. This article joins such efforts, but from a limited perspective that seeks to deepen the processes of institutionalization of sociocultural anthropology in this county during 1940 to 1960. Thus, two dynamics of institutionalization are presented that configured different spaces for anthropological training and production: one closer to the university and another dedicated to state programs. Experiences such as the chair of anthropology thought by Antonio Santiana at the Central University of Ecuador, the Ecuadorian Association of Anthropology promoted by this academic, as well as the Ecuadorian Institute of Anthropology and Geography founded by Aníbal Buitrón are rescued in this paper.
