MILITARY CONTEXT AND ITS INFLUENCE IN WOMEN’S LANGUAGE

Abstract

Needless to explain that women speak differently from men. They are able to choose the right linguistic repertoire to every context taking into consideration who they are talking. They accommodate their linguistic repertoire from one social context to another spontaneously. In this sense, it is necessary to get more insight that leads us to understand beyond the traditional approaches what women’s speech wants to show or get, especially when dabbling into fields that used to be reserved only for men.

Thus, this descriptive research, which collected data through recorded interviews, surveys and observations, attempts to identify and describe the linguistic repertoire used by women in the military so that readers can analyze the features of women's language since the data collected provides information about the usage of vernacular forms and the influence of the military for them to gain confidence and opportunities to express their leadership through the accommodation of the linguistic repertoire. Finally, this research points out some aspects that might be considered by future women who would like to dabble in military life, giving them useful guidelines that contribute to a better integration into the Army.
